IPOB Political Wing Endorses Soludo for Second Term in Anambra

As the November 8 Anambra governorship election draws near, the political wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB-PW) has endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term, urging residents to rally behind him for continuity and progress.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the group said its endorsement followed โ€œa broad assessment of candidates and their plans for the state,โ€ adding that Soludoโ€™s administration had shown โ€œcommitment to security, citizensโ€™ welfare, and prudent management of Anambraโ€™s economy.โ€

The group linked its decision to the political ideology of the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who founded a political party to promote Igbo participation in governance.

โ€œBefore the father of Biafra died, he founded a political party as a springboard for Ndigboโ€™s political expression. He believed engagement, not isolation, was the route to achieving dignity and self-determination. IPOB-PW is returning to that ideology,โ€ the statement said.

Although IPOB-PW did not field a candidate in the election, it said it resolved to take a stand โ€œin the collective interest of the people.โ€

โ€˜Soludo Has Stabilized the Stateโ€™

The group explained that its endorsement was based on what it described as Soludoโ€™s record of reforms and results in governance.

โ€œAfter assessing the candidates, we unanimously agreed that Professor Chukwuma Soludo deserves a second tenure to complete his reforms. He has stabilized the state, improved internal revenue generation without over-reliance on borrowings, and taken bold steps to tackle insecurity,โ€ it added.

According to IPOB-PW, the governorโ€™s approach to governance reflects a rare mix of โ€œvision, prudence, and courage,โ€ which has kept Anambra ahead in the Southeast.

The group said it had reached out to other regional organisations to mobilize support for Soludoโ€™s re-election, expressing optimism that a renewed mandate would consolidate peace and development across the state.

โ€œWe believe Soludoโ€™s continuity will sustain the security gains, economic growth, and infrastructural renewal witnessed in Anambra in recent years,โ€ the statement continued.

The group urged all Igbo sons and daughters to participate in the upcoming poll, describing it as โ€œa choice between progress and uncertainty.โ€

As political momentum builds, the endorsement by IPOBโ€™s political arm could sway opinions among some undecided voters. Yet, others wonder how much influence the group wields in mainstream politics.

So, would IPOBโ€™s open political participation this time be a turning point for Igbo unity and a new regional strategyโ€”or a controversial diversion from its separatist principles? Join the discussion below and share your thoughts.
