Elon Musk has set another world record. His fortune has crossed the $500 billion mark — a milestone no individual has ever reached in modern history.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief, who also owns the social platform X and the AI startup xAI, briefly saw his net worth hit $500 billion before settling at about $499.1 billion.
This came after Tesla’s shares rebounded sharply, rising nearly 14% this year.
The company’s stock had dipped to $220.67 earlier in the year amid controversy over Musk’s short-lived appointment to Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE. He resigned in May and returned fully to Tesla, restoring investor confidence.
Tesla’s resurgence — alongside SpaceX’s booming satellite business and growing interest in Musk’s AI firm xAI — has now pushed him far ahead of every other billionaire on earth.
A Fortune That Outweighs Nations
Experts say Musk’s vast wealth, spread across Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and xAI, could make him the world’s first trillionaire within a few years.
If his $500 billion fortune were a country, it would rank as the 31st largest economy in the world, just below Austria and ahead of Norway, Malaysia, and South Africa — his birthplace.
To illustrate the scale, Musk’s wealth is 125 times greater than Britain’s Crown Jewels, 20 times the cost of London’s Elizabeth Line, and ten times the value of the Louvre Museum and its priceless art collection.
Some say he could “buy the White House 1,250 times over,” based on its Zillow valuation of $398 million.
While Musk’s companies soar, rivals are racing to keep up. A neurotech firm, Science Corporation, recently unveiled an eye chip called PRIMA that can restore sight through a brain-computer interface.
In clinical trials involving 38 people across 17 global sites, including Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, 84% of patients regained significant visual function within a year.
