Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his commitment to staying focused on delivering the dividends of democracy, promising that “nothing will distract this administration” from improving the welfare and happiness of Abians.
Speaking at the Government House, Umuahia, Otti made the declaration while receiving Mr. Wisdom Chisom, an Abia-born cyclist who rode from Lagos to Abia in his honour.
The cyclist said he embarked on the journey to celebrate the Governor’s “visible and impactful achievements across the state in record time.”
Otti described the gesture as inspiring and reaffirmed that his government’s mission remains rooted in public happiness.
“The essence of government is to make your people happy. We will continue and will not stop,” he said, adding that widespread support across the state has further strengthened his resolve.
He commended Chisom for his patriotic act and urged him to remain a model citizen, saying Abians excel wherever they go.
Free Education Lifts School Enrolment by 100%
Meanwhile, the state government has revealed that school enrolment in Abia’s public schools has more than doubled since July 2025, following the introduction of free education.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, the surge reflects growing confidence in public schools as reforms in the education sector begin to take effect.
He said the initiative, which covers primary and junior secondary schools, is restoring trust in government institutions and easing the financial burden on parents.
Kanu described the trend as “heartwarming evidence that Abians are responding to the renewed hope in our public schools.”
