Seplat Energy Plc, in partnership with NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL), has awarded ₦18 million in prizes to outstanding students from Edo and Delta States at the 2025 PEARLs Quiz Competition — its flagship education initiative aimed at nurturing academic excellence and leadership among youths in host communities.
The grand finale, held in Asaba, Delta State, saw Pioneer Education Centre, Edo State, crowned overall winner with a ₦10 million top prize.
Notre Dame College, Uzoro, Delta State, claimed second place with ₦5 million, while Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Benin City, secured ₦3 million for third place.
The PEARLs Quiz, short for Promoting Exceptional and Respectable Leaders, has become a model Corporate Social Investment (CSI) project by the Seplat–NNPC Joint Venture.
Since its inception in 2012, it has provided platforms for young minds to engage in intellectual competition, teamwork, and leadership development.
Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders
Speaking at the event, Chioma Afe, Seplat Energy’s Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, represented by Hadiza Garbati, General Manager of Government Relations, commended the participating schools for their excellence and resilience.
“Every participant in this competition is a winner,” Afe said. “The knowledge and experiences gained here will shape these students into confident, forward-thinking citizens.”
She thanked both the Edo and Delta State governments for their continuous support and reaffirmed Seplat’s long-term commitment to youth development through education and innovation.
The ceremony also featured a STEAM Innovation Challenge, where students presented projects in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics — reflecting the programme’s broader vision of promoting problem-solving and creative thinking among Nigerian youths.
Government and Industry Praise Initiative
Managing Director of NNPC Exploration and Production Limited, Nicolas Foucart, represented by Godwin Ijiga, lauded the students for their creativity and drive, describing the initiative as “a powerful demonstration of Nigeria’s youth potential.”
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, praised Seplat and NNPC for their sustained investment in education.
He said the initiative continues to “inspire students to pursue excellence, confidence, and leadership,” noting that it aligns with the state’s education reform agenda.
Since its launch, the Seplat–NNPC PEARLs Quiz has impacted thousands of students and teachers, reinforcing the vital link between corporate responsibility and sustainable community growth.
