MTN to Shut Network in 3 States for Maintenance Friday

MTN Nigeria has announced plans to carry out a scheduled network maintenance exercise on Friday, October 25, which will temporarily disrupt connectivity across parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano States.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the telecommunications giant said the maintenance will run between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and will affect 101 network sites across 15 Local Government Areas.

MTN explained that the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to improve network reliability and strengthen its fibre infrastructure in northern Nigeria.

“This planned maintenance is a continuation of the restoration work we began in August 2025 along the same route,” the company said. “The exercise will ensure stronger, more resilient connections for our customers in the affected regions.”

According to MTN, the work involves a fibre cutover on a newly relocated cable segment between AFCOT and Bawo village, designed to replace previously damaged spans and eliminate multiple joints that weaken optical performance and reduce stability.

Affected Areas and Expected Impact

The company listed the affected areas as Nasarawa LGA in Kano State; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa State; and Askira/Uba and Shani in Borno State.

During the two-hour window, services on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks — including 10 enterprise connections — will be unavailable due to the linear and unprotected nature of the fibre route.

MTN assured subscribers that normal connectivity will be restored immediately after the maintenance.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate our customers’ understanding as we work to deliver a more stable and efficient network experience,” the company added.

It described the exercise as part of an upgrade project to eliminate recurring faults, improve uptime, and enhance the overall network experience for millions of users in underserved northern regions.
