Obidient Movement in Anambra Endorses Soludo for Second Term

In a surprising political turn, a major faction of the Obidient Movement in Anambra State, led by Hon. Ikenna Azomchine, has endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term in office.

Azomchine, popularly known as Obidient General, announced the endorsement during a press conference in Awka, declaring that the movement’s decision was based on Soludo’s “integrity, performance, and credibility.”

Azomchine said the group, known for its loyalty to Peter ObiLabour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former Anambra governor — had objectively reviewed Soludo’s performance and concluded that he aligns with the movement’s values.

“We are disciples of good governance, and we made this decision obediently,” he said. “We hold integrity, performance, and credibility dear. Those are what Soludo represents. Nobody bribed us; we haven’t even met him in person.”

He added that the movement’s assessment showed there are “more Obidients within APGA in Anambra than in Labour Party,” a factor that influenced their position. According to him, “many APGA members voted for Peter Obi in 2023, so supporting Soludo now is only fair.”

A Bridge Between Two Political Camps

The endorsement is particularly striking given past tensions between Soludo and Obi. In 2022, both leaders exchanged public statements over economic policy and political direction, revealing sharp ideological differences.

But Azomchine said the Obidient Movement’s focus is not on political rivalry but on measurable governance outcomes. “We believe in continuity where progress exists,” he said. “Soludo has performed, and we will stand by him.”

He emphasized that supporting Soludo in 2025 would not affect their loyalty to Obi in the 2027 presidential race. “We are not joining APGA. We are only joining hands with APGA members to re-elect a performing governor,” he clarified.

Following the press conference, Azomchine led members of the movement to an APGA rally in Amawbia, Awka South, where they openly declared support for Soludo’s re-election. He also donated two campaign vehicles to the governor’s team.
