The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. The application period will run from October 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026.
In a statement signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, NELFUND expressed appreciation to tertiary institutions across Nigeria for their cooperation and urged them to continue collaborating to ensure a smooth and inclusive loan process for all eligible students.
The Fund reminded institutions to update and upload verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal. This, it said, is a key requirement for students to successfully apply and benefit from the loan scheme.
According to the statement, the portal will officially open on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and close on Saturday, January 31, 2026, giving applicants just over three months to complete their submissions.
Eligibility and Application Process
NELFUND stated that both returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions are eligible to apply. Fresh students may use either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a Matric Number.
Institutions have also been urged to show flexibility with registration and fee deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement, to prevent disruption of academic activities.
“Students that have not commenced their academic session are encouraged to formally write to NELFUND with their approved academic calendar to allow for scheduling flexibility,” the Fund noted.
It further appealed to schools to consider temporary registration measures for applicants whose loan requests are still being processed, saying such support will ensure “no student loses access to education due to financial constraints.”
