The United States will deploy up to 200 troops to Israel to form a special task force that will help coordinate stabilization and humanitarian efforts in Gaza, U.S. officials announced on Thursday.
The new unit, to be called the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC), will be set up by the U.S. Central Command. Its primary mission will be to facilitate the delivery of aid and security assistance into Gaza while ensuring coordination among multiple international actors.
Officials stressed that none of the deployed U.S. troops will enter Gaza itself. The task force will operate from Israel and nearby areas, serving as a link between international partners and local authorities.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed in a statement that the personnel will monitor the Gaza agreement and collaborate closely with other international forces already on the ground.
International Collaboration
According to two senior U.S. officials, the CMCC will also include representatives from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and potentially the United Arab Emirates. The group will coordinate operations with Israeli forces and other security agencies to prevent accidental confrontations and ensure safe humanitarian access.
One of the officials explained that the American contingent will consist of experts in planning, security, logistics, and engineering — roles critical to managing relief and reconstruction operations.
Washington hopes the Gaza stabilization effort will ease regional tensions and open the door for renewed peace talks and normalization between Israel and more Arab nations.
During his first term, former President Donald Trump brokered the Abraham Accords, which saw Israel establish diplomatic ties with Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Sudan.
Officials said Saudi Arabia remains a potential candidate for normalization, along with Indonesia, Mauritania, Algeria, Syria, and Lebanon — though progress will depend on developments in Gaza and the wider region.
