Several soldiers are feared dead following a late-night attack by members of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Ngamdu, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The assault reportedly took place around 2 a.m., when the terrorists stormed the Ngamdu military super camp and opened fire on troops stationed there. Gunfire echoed across the area as soldiers fought back, though details of the casualties remain unclear.

A security source told reporters that the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway has since been blocked by the military, leaving hundreds of travellers and motorists stranded on both sides of the road.

“Reports indicate that the insurgents launched a late-night attack on the military super camp in Ngamdu, inflicting casualties on personnel,” one source said. “Early this morning, military ambulances conveyed some injured soldiers to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu.”

No official statement has yet been released by the Nigerian Army, but reinforcements have reportedly been deployed to secure the area and pursue the attackers.

The Ngamdu axis, a strategic route between Maiduguri and Damaturu, has witnessed repeated attacks by ISWAP militants in recent years despite intensified counter-terror operations.
