Enugu Gears Up for 2025 New Yam Music Festival, Eyes Global Tourism

Enugu is warming up for a vibrant celebration as the 2025 New Yam Music Festival (NYMF) promises to light up the city this December with colour, culture, and commerce.

Organisers say the grand finale will hold on December 14 and 15 at the Amadeo Event Centre, drawing thousands of visitors, investors, and cultural enthusiasts from around the world.

With the support of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) and the Enugu State Ministries of Culture, Tourism and Agriculture, the festival is positioning Enugu as a growing hub for culture-driven tourism and creative investment.

The festival is not just a cultural event,” organisers said in a statement on Monday. “It is an engine for local economic growth, hospitality development, and global creative exchange.”

A Festival of Culture and Commerce

The New Yam Music Festival celebrates the end of the Igbo farming season and the beginning of new harvests. But this year’s edition carries a bigger vision—to connect heritage with enterprise.

Thousands of tourists, entrepreneurs, and diaspora investors are expected from the United Kingdom, China, Portugal, and Qatar, where the festival has previously toured. The event could inject millions into Enugu’s economy through hotel bookings, local transport, craft markets, and traditional cuisine sales.

According to Mr Big Sea, co-founder of the festival and a stakeholder in Heritage and Culture, “The festival was conceived as more than a celebration; it is an economic and cultural movement that reconnects people to their roots while opening doors for global engagement in African culture.”

Beyond music and dance, the 2025 edition will spotlight agricultural innovation, creative enterprise, and business partnerships—showcasing the immense potential within Nigeria’s cultural and farming heritage.

Highlights will include a yam pyramid exhibition, indigenous art markets, masquerade displays, and performances by top Igbo artists blending traditional rhythms with modern sound.

Previous Events

Last year’s festival attracted over 3,000 participants, including royal fathers, government officials, and cultural icons. Organisers expect an even larger turnout this year, with Enugu’s hospitality sector gearing up for increased patronage.

Before the grand finale, the festival will host exclusive showcases in Lagos to connect investors and business leaders to emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s creative economy.

With its fusion of agriculture, art, and enterprise, the New Yam Music Festival 2025 aims to strengthen cultural diplomacy, expand creative industries, and place Enugu on the map of global cultural tourism.
