The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed President Bola Tinubu for what it called his “continued insensitivity” to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity. The opposition party accused the President of chasing political appearances instead of tackling nationwide violence.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described Tinubu’s recent remarks about uniting Nigerians as “mere political rhetoric.”
The President had told worshippers at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos that his mission was to unite the country. But the ADC said his actions so far “show he does not understand what it takes to unite Nigerians.”
Party Accuses President of Ignoring Bloodshed
The ADC said the nation was “under siege” and that Tinubu’s silence in the face of spreading attacks showed a “complete failure of governance.”
It noted that “nine Local Government Areas in Kwara State, once peaceful, are now under bandit control.” Residents, according to the party, have been forced to provide “food, drinks, and money as ransom payments.”
The party also mentioned fresh killings in Kogi State, where travellers were ambushed and abducted, and said that over 180 schools across northern states had been shut due to rising insecurity.
“From Plateau to Zamfara, Benue to Niger, Kaduna to Kwara, incidents of mass abductions, violent attacks, and forced displacement continue to rise,” the statement read.
The ADC accused the federal government of “offering vague assurances of progress” while citizens continue to die in large numbers.
‘Tinubu Prefers Funerals and Ceremonies’
The party said the President’s public schedule sends “the unfortunate message that he cares more about political appearances than human lives.”
It recalled that when “hundreds were killed in Plateau,” Tinubu “chose to remain in the comfort of the Presidential Villa to condemn the attacks he should have prevented.”
As Nigerians continue to live in fear, the ADC urged the President to return focus to his constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.
