Vice President Shettima Returns After UN, Germany Diplomatic Tour

Vice President Kashim Shettima is back in Abuja after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, followed by strategic engagements in Germany.

Shettima described the visit as a fruitful mission that deepened Nigeria’s voice in global affairs and strengthened international partnerships.

At the UN, he delivered Tinubu’s national statement, demanding reforms in the global body. He urged recognition of Africa’s sovereignty over its estimated $700 billion mineral wealth, insisting the continent must no longer be exploited.

“The time has come for genuine reforms that give Africa its rightful seat and say in global decision-making,” he declared.

Key Meetings and Partnerships

Shettima held talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who commended Nigeria’s push for a permanent seat on the Security Council. He also showcased Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunities to global investors.

In New York, the Vice President engaged with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and other international partners.

The focus was on health, education, and energy projects that could unlock new capital for Nigeria’s growth.

“We have a chance to turn our resources into prosperity through meaningful partnerships,” he assured investors.

Before returning home, Shettima travelled to Germany to consolidate on trade and energy deals. He met Nigerian professionals abroad, promising closer engagement between the diaspora and the Tinubu administration.

“This government will not treat the diaspora as outsiders. You are vital to our national progress,” he told them.
