How CCTV Helped Lagos Police Nab Allen Avenue Jewellery Robber

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robbery kingpin and hired assassin, John Samuel, in his Epe hideout.

A statement by Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said Samuel, 28, is from Akwa Ibom and a recently released ex-convict.

According to police, Samuel was freed from prison on 18 August 2025 after serving six years for armed robbery. But he quickly returned to violent crime.

“John Samuel, an ex-convict, is vicious and notorious for armed robbery, assassination, and murder of some of his victims,” the police statement read.

“After his release from prison, he returned to crime and criminality with even more viciousness. He is notorious for shooting at victims before dispossessing them of their valuables.”

The Allen Avenue Robbery

On 18 August 2025, Samuel allegedly shot businessman Gbenga Obama in broad daylight at Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. He robbed him of a gold necklace and other valuables.

CCTV footage showed Samuel firing at Obama with an English pistol before escaping with an accomplice waiting on a motorcycle.

“The victim, who sustained serious gunshot wounds during the attack, has since been treated and discharged,” police confirmed.

The suspect confessed to selling the stolen jewellery for ₦4 million, far below its real market value.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other gang members involved in the robbery.

Police Reassure Lagos Residents

Lagos Police Commissioner, CP Olohudare Jimoh, praised the gallantry of the operatives who tracked and arrested Samuel.

“The Lagos State Police Command is intensifying efforts to arrest other members of his gang and bring them to justice. They will all be prosecuted on completion of the investigation,” the statement added.

The command assured residents of safety and warned criminals that Lagos offers no hiding place.
