PCN Inducts 95 ABUAD Pharmacy Students into Profession

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has inducted 95 pharmacy students of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).

At the oath-taking ceremony, the Registrar of PCN, Ibrahim Ahmed, urged the new professionals to remain committed. He charged them to be “good ambassadors of ABUAD and take the profession seriously for the benefit of humanity.”

The event carried the theme: “Navigating the Tides of Change in a Strained Healthcare System: Pharmacists as Compass to Quality Care.”

The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, said digital tools were now vital in Nigeria’s healthcare journey. Represented by Dr. Gbenga Fajemirokun, she called technology the compass that could guide the system through turbulence.

“The path to a sustainable healthcare future is laden with challenges, including technological disruption, regulatory changes, and evolving patient needs,” she said.

She added: “Effective strategies must address demographic shifts, disease burden, inefficiencies, and potential external shocks. We must embrace digital health tools, foster adaptable staff, and push for policies that ease resource limitations.”

Adeyeye explained that extending care beyond hospital walls, using data to predict demand, and adopting triage and digital booking systems would improve flow and reduce wait times.

She also urged investments in preventive measures, saying: “We should promote healthier communities to reduce the overall burden on the system.”

Afe Babalola’s Charge to Graduates

Founder of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, told the students to hold tightly to the school’s values. He said the teachings they had received would “help them excel tremendously in their chosen career.”

Nine students graduated with distinctions. They included Bethel Egboro, who was the best graduating student, along with Deborah Adetona, Precious Adetokunbo, and Efeosa Aibangbee. Others were Arafat Ajibola, Eniola Ariyo, Chinalu Egbochukwu, Olajumoke Fehintola, and Chidera Iheme.
