Governor Siminalayi Fubara has attended his first Sunday service since his reinstatement as Rivers State Governor.
He worshipped with his wife, Valerie, and political stakeholders at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in his hometown, Opobo, in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.
The governor asked the church to stay steadfast in prayer as his administration begins again after turbulent months.
“My mission today is a quiet visit to thank God for His faithfulness to my family, the state, and the nation,” Fubara said.
He told the congregation that nothing could equal God’s goodness except sincere worship from a pure heart.
A Thanksgiving Service
Although the church marked its 2025 Harvest of Divine Possibilities, Fubara insisted his purpose was thanksgiving.
He said the prayers of the church had sustained his family and administration during trials.
According to him, “those prayers averted shame and brought divine intervention.”
The service included special prayers led by the Vicar, Venerable Emmanuel Nwuju, for the governor and his family.
Being the International Day of Peace, the governor also reminded citizens of the need to remain peaceful.
Crisis and Reinstatement
Fubara, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, was elected governor on May 29, 2023. He succeeded Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the FCT.
Though Wike played a key role in his victory, the two men later clashed over state structures and resources.
The feud split the House of Assembly, fueled impeachment plots, triggered street protests, and even saw the Assembly complex burnt.
On March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
But last Wednesday, Tinubu lifted the emergency rule and restored democratic order.
