Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, is preparing to show photographic proof of her womanhood in a US court.
The move comes as part of their defamation suit against American right-wing commentator Candace Owens.
Filed in July, the lawsuit accuses Owens of spreading “outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions” that triggered a “campaign of global humiliation” and “relentless bullying.”
Their legal team, led by US lawyer Tom Clare, confirmed they would present evidence both “generically and specifically” to disprove Owens’ allegations. He said their case will rely on “expert testimony”, which “will be scientific in nature.”
Macrons Prepare to Present Evidence
When asked if the photographs would include Brigitte Macron during pregnancy, Clare refused to confirm. He said the images would only be presented directly in court.
He admitted the allegations had been “extremely upsetting” to the couple. “It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself, to put this type of proof forward,” Clare noted.
Yet, Brigitte Macron is ready to face the ordeal. According to Clare, she is determined to “subject herself to [this process] in a very public way” and “do what it takes to set the record straight.”
Impact on the French President
Clare also acknowledged the rumours had been a distraction to President Macron. However, he stressed that the French leader was not derailed from his duties. “I don’t want to suggest that it somehow has thrown him off his game,” he said.
“He’s not immune from that because he’s the president of a country,” Clare added.
The defamation case underlines the growing trend of global leaders resorting to the courts to counter misinformation.
