Mazi Ejimofor Opara, National Publicity Secretary of APGA, has dismissed as fake the apology circulating online and attributed to Senator Uche Ekwunife.
Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of APC in the coming Anambra election, had accused Nonye Soludo, wife of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, of infidelity and questioned the paternity of her children. The claims ignited outrage across the state.
Nonye Soludo, in response, demanded a public retraction and apology. Soon after, an “apology” appeared online but was swiftly disowned by her camp.
Fake Apology and Rising Tension
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 17, Opara clarified that the supposed apology never came from Ekwunife. “The publication lacked credibility and should be disregarded,” he declared.
According to him, the document was fabricated by Tony Ezike, who claimed to be a media aide to the senator.
Opara insisted that only a direct and personally signed apology from Ekwunife would be acceptable.
He added that the senator, who is running alongside APC’s governorship candidate Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, must show accountability by addressing the issue publicly.
First Lady Responds Fiercely
Nonye Soludo herself released a blistering statement. She accused Ekwunife of crossing the line by dragging her children into the controversy. “We shrugged off her tantrums as usual madness, but she has crossed the red line,” she said.
The First Lady narrated how she once hosted Ekwunife and her family in her home, describing the attacks as shocking and malicious.
She challenged the senator to prove her integrity. “Since you claim to be Catholic, let us both swear an oath of fidelity and chastity before the Blessed Sacrament,” she wrote.
She went further to invite Ekwunife to submit their children to paternity tests in London hospitals, promising to cover all expenses. “If the results confirm your husband as the father of your children, I will congratulate you with a cash award,” she added.
The First Lady warned that if the senator fails to retract her allegations within 72 hours, legal action would follow. “My lawyers are on notice. I will take every step necessary to ensure justice and restitution,” she said.
The accusations and counter-accusations appear for now to be overshadowing important campaign issues ahead of the November 8, 2025, election.
