Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, says the Southeast has no reason to complain. He believes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown rare commitment to the region’s development.
Umahi spoke at Nine Mile Corner, Enugu, after inspecting the dual carriageway linking Nassarawa, Makurdi, and Nine Mile. The 264km road, doubled to 528km, is valued at $1 billion (₦15 trillion).
“President Tinubu has remembered the Southeast very well, and we have no reason to complain,” Umahi said.
Quality Work and Regional Inclusion
The project is split into five sections. Sections 1 to 3 fall in Benue, while 4 and 5 are in Enugu. Umahi praised China Habo, the contractors, for their speed and quality.
“I came ready to quarrel but found nothing to complain about — instead, I commend China Habo highly,” he said.
He urged the Southeast to support Tinubu. “We need to be wise and engage based on realities, not sentiment,” he added.
Umahi believes the region is now fully included in national infrastructure plans. “By these infrastructure projects, we are already at the center — we are no longer the last,” he declared.
A Call for Unity and Support
The Minister said the Southeast must embrace Tinubu’s leadership. “He that has started this work, God has ordained him to finish it,” Umahi said.
He promised to educate the people and change the narrative. “We will take them straight to the center, where Mr. President has already started taking us,” he said.
Umahi also revealed that the Enugu axis of the road will be completed with rigid concrete pavement. The remaining 72km has been awarded to SKCC Construction for ₦150 billion.
