The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an Indian businessman, Gupta Ravi Kumar, and three Nigerians over a massive tramadol shipment.
The consignment, disguised as multivitamins, was intercepted at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The drugs, packed in 114 cartons, arrived from Delhi aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. NDLEA operatives placed the cargo under surveillance and moved in on Thursday.
“We intercepted two trucks and arrested a clearing agent and two drivers,” said NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi. Gupta was nabbed the next day when he came to collect the shipment.
More Arrests Across Lagos
In another operation, NDLEA officers caught a passenger, Onyeganochi Ifeanyi, with 900g of cannabis hidden in crayfish. He was heading to Doha on Qatar Airways.
His confession led to the arrest of Ohadiegwu Uchenna, who was found with more drugs in his hotel room.
At Tincan Port, 161 parcels of Canadian Loud and 1.2kg of hashish oil were seized from a container of spare parts. Two suspects were arrested.
Another 65kg of Loud was intercepted on Third Mainland Bridge. The driver, Abubakar Ibrahim, was taken into custody.
Skuchies Factory and Nationwide Raids
NDLEA uncovered a factory in Ikorodu producing “skuchies”—a mix of cannabis and blackcurrant drink. Over 6,000 bottles and 4,232kg of cannabis were recovered. Factory manager Joy Awosika was arrested.
Raids in Abuja, Kano, Oyo, Anambra, Yobe, Ogun, and Edo led to more seizures. In Edo, 16.9 tonnes of cannabis were destroyed on a seven-hectare farm.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), praised the officers. “We must sustain the balanced approach of enforcement and sensitisation under the WADA campaign,” he said.
