Nollywood veteran and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as “a curse in this country.”
He made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he criticised President Bola Tinubu’s frequent trips abroad.
Okonkwo argued that a president with Nigeria’s level of problems should not be vacationing in foreign countries.
“Where is your president? Vacation in France. People are dying in Zamfara, dying in Katsina. He said he’s going on vacation,” he said.
“A Country in Distress”
Okonkwo listed Nigeria’s unresolved crises: ASUU’s fresh strike threat, doctors and nurses preparing to down tools, and NUPENG considering industrial action in the oil sector.
“See our educational system. ASUU is threatening to go on strike. The doctors and nurses are threatening to also go on strike, telling you the instability in healthcare. How about the oil sector? NUPENG going on strike,” he warned.
He added that many contractors had not been paid since 2024, worsening infrastructure problems. According to him, these failures prove that Nigeria is “a country in distress.”
“We have more malnourished children in Nigeria now than in Sudan,” he lamented.
Attack on Tinubu’s Foreign Trips
The politician accused Tinubu of being disconnected from the suffering masses.
“People are suffering and dying and this President is vacationing in Paris, wearing the best of suit, laughing… laughing at the suffering of Nigerians. God should save us from APC,” Okonkwo said.
He asked why the president could not work from Nigeria if indeed his trip was official. “There is no place in Nigeria where you can attract tourism and do your work?” he asked.
Okonkwo insisted that most serious presidents facing such national crises would not leave their country for leisure or work leave abroad.
But does it matter where a president works from, provided they deliver results? Comment.
