The Embassy of Qatar in Nigeria has debunked viral reports claiming that stricter visa rules were introduced for Nigerian travellers.
An embassy official told BBC Pidgin on Wednesday, September 10, that no such restrictions exist. “There are no restrictions on Nigerians seeking to visit Qatar,” the official said.
The rumours suggested that Nigerians must now meet new conditions, including proof of hotel bookings, return flight reservations, and restrictions limiting visas to women and families only.
Some reports even alleged that staying in a 5-star hotel was now compulsory.
The embassy dismissed all these claims as false. It stressed that travellers should rely only on official communication channels for guidance on Qatari visa policies.
This clarification comes as travel misinformation has been spreading online, creating anxiety among Nigerians planning trips.
Qatar’s position aligns with global reports on travel misinformation, which often spreads through social media without verification.
