The Oyo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 280 suspects for drug-related offences between January and August.
Commander Olayinka Joe-Fadile revealed that the suspects included 246 men and 34 women, aged 13 to 50 years.
He added that the agency also secured 43 convictions within the same period.
Joe-Fadile said the suspects were caught with substances ranging from cannabis sativa to tramadol, cocaine, pentazocine injection, diazepam, and “skuches”.
He explained that 38 cases were already before the courts at different stages of hearing.
“The command recorded a total seizure of 1.2 tonnes of cannabis sativa and other psychotropic substances,” he disclosed.
He also confirmed that a suspect arrested with human parts was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Rehabilitation and Sensitisation
The commander said the agency admitted 19 people into its rehabilitation programme. “Four have been successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, while 524 others were counselled,” he noted.
He added that NDLEA conducted its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign across 141 locations in Oyo.
These included schools, markets, communities, motor parks, churches, mosques, and even radio and TV stations.
Joe-Fadile vowed to sustain the campaign. “We will continue to sensitise the public on the dangers of drug trafficking until Oyo is drug-free,” he declared.
He thanked residents for their cooperation and asked them to keep supporting efforts to ensure a safer state.
