The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has condemned the killing of Mrs. Modupe Alasin of Efon Alaaye, allegedly murdered by her husband after a domestic dispute.
Dr. Oyebanji, who also chairs the State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee, described the incident as “an appalling act of cruelty and a heartbreaking loss.”
She said the tragedy reflects the painful reality of gender-based violence that continues to haunt homes and communities.
“This is not just another case of domestic abuse. It is a clear violation of human rights and a tragic loss of a woman whose life should have been protected and not taken. The circumstances of her death are both painful and unacceptable. Our prayers are with her children, family, and all those left behind,” she said.
Justice Must Be Served
The governor’s wife directed the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee to step up preventive measures, survivor support, and grassroots awareness campaigns.
She also called on the police to investigate thoroughly. “The law must take its full course. The perpetrator must be held accountable, not only for Modupe’s death but to send a strong message that violence has no place in our state,” she said.
Dr. Oyebanji insisted that swift justice is necessary to restore confidence in the system and assure victims that the state will defend their rights.
She appealed to all Ekiti residents to take a stand against abuse. “To every woman who feels unsafe or unheard, please speak out. Your voice matters, and help is available,” she said.
According to her, the Ekiti Gender-Based Violence Response Mechanism is active and ready to respond to reports. She advised victims to reach out before it becomes too late.
