Iga Świątek delivered a commanding performance at the US Open, defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6–3, 6–1 to reach the quarterfinals in New York.
The win reinforced her reputation as one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour.
It also sets up a high-stakes rematch against Amanda Anisimova — the American who stunned Świątek with a double-bagel defeat earlier this summer at Wimbledon.
Świątek Recovers from Slow Start
The match began with signs of trouble for the world No. 2. Alexandrova broke early and took a 3–1 lead, capitalising on rushed errors from Świątek.
But once the Pole settled, the momentum shifted dramatically. She reeled off five consecutive games to take the first set 6–3, rediscovering her rhythm and depth from the baseline.
The second set was a masterclass in control. Świątek dominated on serve, winning 83% of points behind her first delivery and saving the only break point she faced.
She broke Alexandrova twice — first in the third game, then again at 4–1 — and closed out the match in just over an hour.
Świątek finished with 26 winners to 13 unforced errors. Alexandrova, by contrast, committed 29 errors, many while trying to change pace or flatten her groundstrokes.
After the match, Świątek explained how she turned things around: “I wanted to find my rhythm, and once I did, I felt like I was in my bubble and in my zone,” she said. “I’m really proud of how I handled being down early. It gave me confidence to keep going and play my game.”
Alexandrova admitted she struggled to respond: “She gives you no rhythm, and she doesn’t let you breathe,” she said. “When she found her timing, it was really difficult to hang in. I tried to take risks, but the errors piled up.”
Anisimova Rematch Promises Fireworks
Świątek’s victory sends her into her third consecutive US Open quarterfinal, continuing a streak of consistency that has kept her near the top of the rankings since 2022.
She will now face Amanda Anisimova, who advanced with a 6–0, 6–3 win over Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Their last meeting at Wimbledon ended in one of the most lopsided defeats of Świątek’s career — a 6–0, 6–0 loss that shocked the tennis world.
Asked about the rematch, Świątek acknowledged the challenge: “That was a tough day for me, and of course I want to do better this time,” she said. “Amanda has been playing great, and I need to be sharp. But I feel more confident now than I did then.”
Anisimova will have the home crowd behind her, but Świątek’s form suggests she has found her groove at the right time.
