The Ondo State Police Command said it arrested at least 100 men across all 18 local government areas.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Lawal, said many crimes were tackled head-on, from kidnapping to cultism and theft.
“In the past weeks, our command has recorded remarkable breakthroughs in crime prevention, detection, and prosecution—achievements that reflect not only the gallant efforts of our officers and men, but also the invaluable cooperation of the good people of Ondo State.”
Lawal listed the breakdown of offences: murder (1), kidnapping (4), armed robbery (11), cultism (45), unlawful drug possession (16), fraud (1), theft and receiving stolen property (5), vandalism (3), vehicle-related crimes (4), arms-supplier/ammunition possession (1), and other robbery-linked suspects (9).
He said police recovered 5 locally made guns, ammunition, 30 AA cartridges, 15 unregistered or forged vehicle documents, 3 stolen vehicles, 8 motorcycles, 15 impounded or contravened vehicles, fake or unauthorised number plates (including government and “spy” plates), and assorted stolen items—from mobile phones and SIM cards to mattresses and jewellery.]
Lawal praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, saying his leadership “continues to inspire professionalism within the force.”
He added: “The command would continue to work tirelessly in synergy with other security agencies to make Ondo State unsafe for criminals but safe for law-abiding citizens.”
Rising Crime Rate In Ondo
The state has seen a sharp crackdown over the past weeks. In August, separate operations led to the arrest of 208 suspects for kidnapping, robbery, murder, rape, cultism, car theft, and property fraud.
In one operation, all suspects in the killing of two Adekunle Ajasin University students were arrested within 72 hours, while a motorcycle rider linked to kidnappers was also detained in under five days.
Weapons seized in that earlier operation included 25 firearms—cut-to-size homemade pistols, prohibited rifles, and a Beretta—with 12 stolen vehicles recovered.
