FG Fix New Nigerian Passport Fees Effective From September 2025

The Federal Government has approved an upward review of fees for the Nigerian international passport, effective September 1, 2025.

This was announced in a statement on Thursday by the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A. S. Akinlabi.

According to the NIS, the adjustment affects only applications submitted within Nigeria.

“The review, which only affects passport application fees made in Nigeria, now sets new thresholds at ₦100,000 for a 32-page booklet with five-year validity and ₦200,000 for a 64-page booklet with 10-year validity,” Akinlabi stated.

The Immigration Service explained that the new rates is to protect the quality and security of the Nigerian Standard Passport.

Meanwhile, applications processed outside Nigeria remain unchanged.

“Passport application fees made by Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page booklet with five-year validity and $230 for the 64-page booklet with 10-year validity,” the statement read.

Why the Adjustment?

The Service said the review will help strengthen efficiency while ensuring sustainability in production and service delivery.

“The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians,” Akinlabi added.

The NIS promised Nigerians a more reliable process, with fewer delays and improved turnaround time.

However, many citizens are already worried about the affordability of the new fees. With the rising cost of living, the move could make access to passports harder for average families.

Do you think the passport price review is justified? Will it improve service delivery, or will it push passports out of reach for many Nigerians? Share your thoughts in the comments.
