Mr. Abiodun Olaniyi, Project Coordinator for the Nigeria International Agriculture Expo (NIAEXPO 2025), is excited about the upcoming event’s potential to boost Nigeria’s agricultural business and improve its role in the world market.
During a press conference in Abuja, Olaniyi talked about the expo’s theme, “Showcasing Nigeria’s Agricultural Potential on a Global Stage,” which aims to be a hub for fresh ideas and promote trade and investment in agriculture.
The event seeks to position Nigeria as Africa’s leading agribusiness centre by showcasing local innovations, supporting women in agriculture, and connecting farmers with global markets. This is all aimed at aiding global food security and sustainable agriculture.
Focus Areas and Opportunities
The expo is set to tackle key challenges like post-harvest losses, limited financial access, and logistical issues. Previous events saw participation from countries like Russia, India, and the U.S., and now, representatives from Nigeria and other African countries will join.
They’ll explore topics such as agro-logistics, digital agriculture, and women’s involvement in agribusiness, according to Olaniyi.
There will be a spotlight on less-utilised crops like broccoli, cauliflower, and moringa. A forum on organic farming and agroecology education will also be on the agenda.
Olaniyi highlighted how crops like cashew, cocoa, and sugarcane have great economic potential but need better policies for full benefits.
Special Features and Events
Mr. Adekunle Adamson, Regional Project Lead for NIAEXPO, mentioned that the 2025 expo will feature a Farmers’ Day and a Women Entrepreneurship Hub to ensure inclusivity. Farmers’ Day will focus on celebrating and empowering farmers by training them in new methods.
The Women Entrepreneurship Hub will also support women and youth in agriculture by offering assistance in product registration, packaging, and marketing, as Adamson explained.
This platform is designed to give female agripreneurs practical knowledge that can help them make their products more visible and expand their businesses.
