Former US President Donald Trump has launched another attack on American cultural institutions, accusing top museums of promoting “woke” ideologies.
In a post on his Truth Social, Trump wrote: “The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future.”
He described museums as the “last remaining segment of ‘WOKE’,” referring to their focus on racial injustice, slavery, and civil rights.
Trump’s comments were directed at the Smithsonian Institution, which runs 17 museums and galleries across the US.
These include the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the National Museum of the American Indian.
Last week, the White House announced plans to review eight major museums to “celebrate American exceptionalism” and “remove divisive or partisan narratives.”
Critics say this move targets institutions that have worked to include diverse voices and histories.

Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump responded on X: “Now museums are being targeted because they speak too openly about the horrors of slavery.”
He added: “If telling the truth about slavery makes a museum ‘too woke,’ then the problem isn’t the history, it’s the people who want to erase it.”
Slavery, Civil War, and the Fight for Truth
The transatlantic slave trade lasted over 300 years, with millions of Africans shipped to the Americas.
The US Civil War (1861–1865) was fought largely over slavery. The South lost, but the scars remain.
African Americans have continued to fight for justice, from the Civil Rights Movement to the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020.
In 2017, Trump visited the National Museum of African American History. After the tour, he said: “This museum is a beautiful tribute to so many American heroes. It’s amazing to see.”
Now, his tone has changed.
