NDLEA Arrests Drug Kingpin, Seizes ₦7.8bn Worth of Narcotics

After three years on the run, notorious drug baron Sunday Ibigide has finally been caught.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested him in Asaba, Delta State, while he was moving 250 blocks of skunk weighing 138kg in a distribution bus.

Ibigide, 36, had been wanted since March 1, 2022, when 24.137kg of skunk and 10g of molly were seized from his network.

“He went underground after the first bust,” said NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi. “But credible intelligence led us to him.”

His aide, Clement Osuya, 27, was also arrested during the operation on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

Massive Raids Across States Yield Tonnes of Drugs

In Enugu Ezike, NDLEA operatives backed by soldiers and vigilantes raided three cannabis farms.

Six suspects were arrested. A total of 37,500kg of skunk was destroyed across 15 hectares of farmland.

“We recovered 74.5kg for prosecution,” the agency confirmed.

In Lagos, a mother-son duo, Muyibat and Faruk Mumuni, were caught with 149kg of Ghana Loud in Mushin.

Another suspect, Emmanuel Samuel, was nabbed in Ajah with 8.5kg of Canadian Loud.

In Gombe, 128,000 capsules of tramadol were seized from Sani Mohammed, 32.

Meanwhile, in Kogi, NDLEA officers intercepted 337,800 capsules from a commercial bus driver, Sulaiman Oyedokun, 47, on Okene-Lokoja highway.

Codeine, Ketamine, and Skunk Flood Ports and Highways

At Onne Port in Rivers State, NDLEA recovered 875,000 bottles of codeine syrup worth over ₦6.1 billion.

Also seized were 3.5 million pills of trodol benzhexol valued at ₦1.7 billion from five containers flagged under NDLEA’s watch-list.

In Taraba, 11,250kg of skunk was destroyed in Tanmiya forest. Saleh Babangida, 20, was arrested with 29,840 capsules of tramadol.

Kaduna saw arrests of four suspects linked to 111.1kg of skunk and 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol.

In Edo, 432kg of skunk was found in a bush along Warake-Auchi road. Another 130kg was seized in Sobe.

Kano State recorded two arrests with 92kg of skunk recovered along Zaria-Kano road.

At the Gbaji checkpoint, Badagry-Lagos highway, 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection were intercepted. Akeem Adegun was arrested.

Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), praised the efforts of officers across PHPC, Gombe, Kogi, Lagos, Edo, Kano, Delta, Taraba, and Seme.

“Continue with the balanced approach to drug control,” he urged.
