Africa’s future is getting a digital boost. The African Development Bank (AfDB) is backing a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative to drive the continent’s development blueprint—Agenda 2063.

The Bank, through its Joint Secretariat Support Office, provided both technical and financial support for the 5th Annual Training Workshop held in Lusaka, Zambia.

The five-day event brought together representatives from African Union Member States to sharpen their skills in using AI for monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024–2033) of Agenda 2063.

The workshop was jointly organised by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF).

Participants explored AI platforms like Ailyse, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Google AI Studio, and Perplexity.

They learned how these tools can improve data analysis, support smart decision-making, and promote evidence-based policy development.

“We are working closely with the African Union Commission and strategic partners to accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2063,” said Abibu Tamu, Lead Programme Co-ordinator at AfDB.

The training is part of a push to build institutional and human capacity across Africa.

Digital Innovation Meets Continental Vision

The AfDB’s support reflects its commitment to results-based planning and accountability within the African Union framework.

It also signals a strong belief in digital innovation as a key driver of Africa’s transformation.

Agenda 2063, dubbed “The Africa We Want,” is the African Union’s long-term vision for inclusive growth, peace, and prosperity.

The Second Ten-Year Plan focuses on industrialisation, youth empowerment, climate resilience, and digital transformation.
