The Benue State House of Assembly has stepped boldly into the digital age. With the unveiling of its new E-Parliament system, lawmakers say they are ready to embrace transparency, speed, and citizen engagement like never before.
The launch, tagged “Legislating in the Digital Age”, took place in Makurdi. It marks the beginning of a paperless, tech-driven legislative process in the state.
Terwase Gbande, MD of Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC), said the platform will equip lawmakers with tools to work smarter.
“We’re providing capacity training and working devices to ensure full utilization of the system,” he said.
Digital Laws, Open Access, and Public Participation
Gbande revealed that BDIC is working with the Speaker to digitize all laws passed since the Assembly’s inception. These laws will be made accessible to the public online.
Kennedy Angbo, Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Digital Economy, said the system will help citizens participate more actively in governance. “This is a step towards inclusive governance,” he said.
He praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for backing the project. According to Angbo, the governor’s support made the digital transition possible.

Lawmakers Pledge Support for Digital Governance
House Majority Leader Saater Tiseer and member Michael Audu pledged their full support. They believe digital governance will raise the bar for lawmaking in Nigeria.
Speaker Aondona Dajoh urged members to work together to make the platform a model for others. “This initiative must inspire other states and institutions,” he said.
He stressed the need for accountability and transparency. “This is the first of its kind in North-Central Nigeria,” he added.
The E-Parliament system is expected to reduce paperwork, speed up legislative processes, and improve public trust in governance.
