The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) says 3,598 civil servants risk losing their jobs for dodging a 2021 verification exercise.
The affected officers were recruited between 2013 and 2020. They now have one last chance to clear their names.
The re-verification will run from Monday, August 18, to Thursday, August 28, 2025, across several ministries, departments, and agencies.
“Failure to attend will be taken as conclusive evidence that the officers possess fake letters of appointment and are avoiding detection,” the FCSC warned.
Ministries With the Highest Numbers
Statistics from the commission show the Ministry of Information tops the list with 592 affected officers. The Ministry of Education follows with 506, while the Ministry of Labour has 440.
Others include Works (134), Industry and Trade (196), Health (158), Environment (237), Interior (24), Defence (28), and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (36).
All affected officers must confirm their names on the commission’s website, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation’s portal, or on notice boards in their ministries.
Required Documents and Strict Deadlines
Those summoned must appear with both original and photocopies of their appointment and promotion letters, appointment gazette, confirmation letter, staff change letter, and their July 2025 Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) payslip.
“No extension will be granted under any circumstances,” the commission stressed. Officers on transfer, study leave, or secondment must also attend.
Sources told our correspondent that past verifications revealed people with forged employment letters, often obtained from recruitment rackets inside and outside government offices.
This latest exercise will involve physical screening, document validation, and IPPIS checks to confirm each appointment’s authenticity.
