A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Akure, Ondo State, has arraigned 23-year-old cross-dresser and content creator Taiwo Austine alongside Haris Abubakar (25) and Matthew Ogwu (32) for alleged homosexuality.
Prosecutor Inspector Abayomi Jejeniwa told the court the three men, along with others still at large, were arrested last month after investigations linked them to homosexual acts.
The charge sheet alleges that between April 15 and 17, 2025, the accused engaged in acts described as unnatural for human beings.
“That you, Haris Abubakar, Austine Taiwo, Ogwu Mathew, and one other at large… did conspire to commit felony, to wit: homosexuality,” the charge reads.
Another count claims Austine and Abubakar engaged in a homosexual act, while Ogwu attempted to do the same.
The offences, according to the prosecution, violate Sections 516, 214, and 215 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Defendants Plead Not Guilty
The accused all pleaded not guilty. Jejeniwa asked the court for a trial date, saying he planned to call two witnesses.
Defence counsel A.W. Lawoye urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, arguing the charges are still allegations.
Magistrate B.A. Alphonso adjourned the case to August 11 for bail consideration and ordered the defendants to remain in police custody until the hearing.
