Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State has done Nigeria proud on the global stage.
She emerged the best in the world in English language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
Over 20,000 students from 69 countries competed in this prestigious academic contest.
Nafisa stood out not just for her brilliance, but for her calm determination.
“It was challenging, but I believed in myself and in the strength of my preparation,” she said after her victory.
Her win places Nigeria once again on the map for global academic excellence.
The TeenEagle competition tests not just grammar and vocabulary, but critical thinking, public speaking, essay writing, and real-world communication skills.
From Yobe to the World Stage
Nafisa’s journey began in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
She was selected through local and regional qualifiers before representing Nigeria internationally.
Her performance stunned the judges, who praised her clarity, confidence, and command of the language.
Yobe State education officials have described her win as a “historic breakthrough” for the state’s education system.
The Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Musa Alabe, said the achievement is proof that “when given the right support, our students can compete with the best in the world.”
Nigerians at home and abroad have celebrated her, flooding social media with congratulatory messages and praise for her brilliance.
The Nigerian High Commission in the UK also reportedly sent representatives to the awards ceremony.
What’s Next for Nafisa?
Nafisa says she wants to study international law and hopes to work one day at the United Nations.
Her dream is to “help people speak for themselves and build peace through dialogue.”
She also encouraged other Nigerian students to believe in their abilities. “You don’t need to come from a big city to be seen. Just stay consistent and aim high.”
