PSV Eindhoven lifted the Dutch Super Cup, known as the Johan Cruyff Shield, following a dramatic 2–1 comeback victory over Go Ahead Eagles at Philips Stadion.
Go Ahead edged in front through Mathis Suray’s goal in the 35th minute, but PSV responded late in the second half.
Defender Gerrit Nauber’s own goal equalized in the 78th minute, and Sergiño Dest scored the winner in the 84th minute to seal the 15th Super Cup title in club history—now a record for the competition.
Dest’s strike followed a flowing team move featuring Ivan Perisic and Guus Til. “It was a great team effort. I just had to finish it,” Dest said after the match.
The American fullback was later voted MVP of the match for his overall performance. He played the full 90 minutes, showing sharp form after returning from a long injury layoff last season.
Go Ahead’s Dream Run Ends, PSV Eyes More Glory
Go Ahead Eagles, surprise winners of the KNVB Cup earlier this year, were making their first-ever appearance in the Dutch Super Cup. Their goal came from a low cross by Dean James, which Suray converted with precision.
Despite their underdog status, Go Ahead had beaten PSV 3–2 in their last Eredivisie meeting, adding tension to this rematch.
PSV, under coach Peter Bosz, are now chasing a third straight Eredivisie title—something they haven’t achieved since 2008.
Several new faces featured in the squad, including goalkeeper Matej Kovář and debutants Yarek Gasiorowski and Alassane Pléa. Ricardo Pepi, who came off the bench, is expected to play a key role this season after scoring 17 goals last term.
The Eredivisie season kicks off on August 9, with PSV hosting Sparta Rotterdam. With this win, they’ve started the 2025–26 campaign on a high note.
“We want to win everything this season,” Bosz said confidently after the match.
