The Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has rallied former legislators behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
At the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators, held in Abuja, Gbajabiamila appealed for unity, continuity, and support.
He told the gathering that Tinubu’s government had spread development across the nation without bias.
“President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along,” he said.
“From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity.”
Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, urged the caucus to drum up support for the President’s second-term project.
“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started,” he added.
Northern Lawmakers Back Tinubu’s Second Term
At the end of their deliberations, the Northern Caucus endorsed Tinubu’s re-election and the principle of Southern presidency in 2027.
Their communiqué, signed by Hon. Rufai Chanchangi and Hon. Atiwurcha, made their position clear.
“We align with the unifying foundation of our country, which relates to the rotation of power between the North and South.”
“We advocate that the South be allowed to complete its tenure,” it declared.
They called it a commitment to unity, peace, and fairness.
“The forum believes that it will be in the best interest of the North for the incumbent to complete the tenure of the South,” they said.
The Dialogue Session is part of a broader national consultation drive by the Forum of Former Legislators, aimed at building consensus across regions.
National Chairman of the forum, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, praised the Northern Caucus for what he described as a bold move.
“This resolution by the Northern Caucus is a significant statement of statesmanship,” Igbokwe said.
“It shows leadership that transcends personal or regional interest.”
He expressed hope that other zones would follow suit in the spirit of national stability and democratic progress.
Northern Demands: Security First
Despite their support for Tinubu, the forum called for urgent government action on worsening insecurity.
They specifically pointed to violence in Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, Benue, and Niger states.
“We appreciate what has been done, but the security situation in parts of the North must be addressed more decisively,” they urged.
They also advised more robust engagement with stakeholders to improve policy outcomes and national cohesion.
Gbajabiamila thanked the group for their trust and pledged that the administration would not ignore their concerns.
