INEC Sets August 18 for Start of 2025 Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 18, 2025, as the official kickoff date for Nigeria’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the next general elections.

According to an announcement on its official X handle, INEC said online pre-registration will begin on August 18 through its registration portal.

Nigerians eligible to vote can log in to fill out their information before heading to a registration centre for biometric capture.

“Your votes start with registration. Don’t miss your opportunity to register,” INEC stated in a public post.

Physical Registration Begins August 25

For those unable to register online, physical voter registration will commence a week later on Monday, August 25. The exercise will take place at INEC’s local government offices and designated registration centres across the 36 states and the FCT.

The commission said registration will run from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily.

INEC urged citizens to take advantage of the window and help strengthen democracy by ensuring they are registered to vote.

INEC also issued a stern reminder against underage and multiple registrations. It warned that anyone caught violating voter registration laws will be prosecuted.

Already, public discussions have started on X and other social platforms, with Nigerians calling for smooth logistics, wider awareness, and security at registration points.
