Nasarawa Rector Jailed for Fake Courses, Ordered to Refund Students

A Federal High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Mr. Olaniran Satiregun, Rector of the International College of Administration, Science and Technology, to seven years in prison for running unapproved academic programmes and defrauding students.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) confirmed the conviction in a statement issued on Tuesday. The case was prosecuted by Mr. Adesina Raheem, who led the legal team that secured the judgment.

Between 2019 and 2021, Satiregun admitted students into courses like Nursing, Public Health, and Computer Science—programmes not accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The college was only approved to run four courses, yet it advertised fake degree conversions and professional certifications.

One of the victims, Mr. Onmonya Daniel Ogah, paid ₦110,000 for admission and tuition into a three-year programme that never existed. The ICPC described the scheme as “a deliberate attempt to exploit unsuspecting students through false pretence.”

Justice Anyalewa Onoja-Alapa found Satiregun guilty on all counts and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment “without the option of a fine.” The court also ordered the college to refund all fees collected from students enrolled in the illegal programmes.

The institution has now been directed to restrict its operations strictly to the four NBTE-approved courses. The ICPC said the ruling sends “a firm warning to institutions engaging in academic fraud.”
