A fresh warning has emerged from Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), revealing how drug traffickers are repackaging dangerous substances to deceive unsuspecting citizens—especially young Nigerians and their families.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, raised the alarm in a social media post, saying drug peddlers now hide hard drugs like Colos (short for Colorado, a potent synthetic cannabis) inside everyday food sachets used for cooking Moi-moi.
These sachets are widely available and trusted by many Nigerian households.
He revealed that the NDLEA made this shocking discovery during a recent seizure in the Lekki area of Lagos.
The intercepted items were found in sachets that closely resemble regular Moi-moi cooking packs—making them difficult to suspect at first glance.
Youths at Risk as Traffickers Get More Deceptive
In Babafemi’s words: “RED ALERT PARENTS! In case you see your young ones taking delivery of Moi-moi that comes in these beautiful sachets, please insist on taking a closer look.”
He continued: “The merchants of death are now packaging that dangerous synthetic cannabis known on the street as Colos (Colorado in full) in these Moi-moi cooking sachets.”
This alarming trend highlights the growing desperation and creativity of drug traffickers who now exploit everyday materials to push illicit substances.
The NDLEA’s discovery adds to a long list of deceptive methods used by drug dealers in the country—from food wraps and cosmetics bottles to engine parts and courier packages. In recent years, the agency has had to deal with a surge in synthetic drug use among Nigerian youths.
In response, NDLEA operatives have been scaling up their surveillance, including raiding hotspots in both urban and suburban communities, and intensifying public awareness campaigns. Their efforts have led to several high-profile seizures and arrests across the country.
But Babafemi’s latest warning is a call for parents, guardians, and caregivers to become more vigilant—especially as drug peddlers target young people in schools, universities, and even through doorstep deliveries.
