For over two hours on Thursday night, many Starlink users around the world were offline. The high-speed internet service, run by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, suffered a sudden disruption.
It was one of Starlink’s biggest global outages in recent memory. Musk quickly responded, admitting fault and assuring users that his team was working to fix the issue.
In a short post via X, Musk simply said, “Sorry for the outage. SpaceX will remedy root cause to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
A few hours later, services returned to normal. SpaceX blamed the failure on internal software glitches.
Starlink Expands Again in Nigeria
In Nigeria, Starlink resumed new activations just last month after a temporary pause in late 2024.
At that time, the company had increased its subscription fees without clearance from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). This led to a brief suspension of new accounts.
Now, users in Lagos, Abuja, and other high-demand areas can once again sign up.
Starlink currently serves over 60,000 customers across Nigeria, offering faster internet in places where fibre optics are limited.
SpaceX has launched more than 8,000 satellites into orbit since 2020 to power Starlink’s global coverage.
