The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC), a unit under the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), has praised the Lagos State Government for putting women at the centre of its economic planning.
The PIC gave this commendation during the launch of the Lagos State Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy Roadmap, held at Onikan, Lagos.
Board Chairman of PIC, Udeme Ufot, described the event as a powerful statement of inclusion and equality by the Lagos State Government.
“Today’s event is not just a policy launch, but a significant milestone in our shared vision for a more inclusive, equitable and prosperous society,” he said.
Ufot hailed Lagos for leading by example. He said the government was bold and intentional in advancing gender equality by backing its policies with real data.
He described the roadmap as a product of real conversations with women across Lagos—“including women with disabilities, market traders, young innovators, elderly women and leaders across the formal and informal sectors.”
Built on Real Women’s Voices
The PIC helped develop the roadmap to ensure it reflected women’s realities.
Ufot said the roadmap is based on “deep consultation and collaborative engagement”, with the goal of creating an economy where women can thrive fully and meaningfully.
“This moment affirms what we have always believed at PIC. That transformative change is only possible when policy is rooted in reality, shaped by data, and driven by empathy,” he said.
He also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Cecilia Bolaji Dada, and other MDAs for their contribution.
Ufot added, “The work ahead is significant, but it is also promising. At the PIC, we are ready to walk this journey with Lagos State, by offering continuous support to ensure this roadmap becomes a living, breathing instrument of progress.”
From Policy to Action
The roadmap, described as bold and data-led, is ready for full implementation across various sectors of the Lagos economy.
It also aligns with Nigeria’s broader gender equity goals and global development targets.
The launch represents more than a formality. It is a call to action for all stakeholders to ensure that no woman is left behind.
