Zenith Bank Plc has been crowned Nigeria’s Best Bank at the 2025 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, held at The Peninsula in London.
The award is the most prestigious country honour in the global banking industry, and this year’s edition saw over 770 entries from top-tier institutions including HSBC, Morgan Stanley, Citibank, Barclays, and DBS.
According to the bank, the recognition reflects its “commitment to delivering exceptional banking services, innovative products, and superior value to its customers and shareholders.”
A Legacy of Excellence and Innovation
Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, received the award alongside senior executives from Zenith Bank UK. She described the honour as “a validation of the unwavering trust and confidence our customers have placed in us.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to be recognised as Nigeria’s Best Bank by Euromoney,” she said. “Our success is not just about us, but about the impact we continue to have on the financial ecosystem.”

She dedicated the award to Zenith’s global customers, the visionary leadership of founder Jim Ovia, and the Board and staff for their “unwavering dedication to building a formidable and best-in-class global financial institution that will outlive generations.”
Zenith Bank’s performance in 2024 was exceptional. It posted a ₦1.3 trillion profit before tax, up 67%, and grew gross earnings by 86% to ₦3.97 trillion. Customer deposits surged to ₦22 trillion, while total assets hit ₦30 trillion.
The bank also launched “EaZy by Zenith,” a mobile wallet app that onboarded over 150,000 users within months. It completed a full core banking upgrade under Project Tiger, enhancing trade finance, lending, and customer service systems with AI-ready infrastructure.
Global Recognition and Industry Leadership
Zenith Bank has now been ranked Nigeria’s Number One Bank by Tier-1 Capital for 16 consecutive years in The Banker’s Top 1000 World Banks Ranking. It was also named:
- Bank of the Year (Nigeria) – The Banker (2020, 2022, 2024)
- Best Bank in Nigeria – Global Finance (2020–2022, 2024–2025)
- Best Bank for Digital Solutions – Euromoney (2023)
- Most Sustainable Bank – International Banker (2023, 2024)
- Best Corporate Governance Bank – World Finance (2022–2025)
- Most Responsible Organisation in Africa – SERAS CSR Awards (2024)
Zenith also opened a new branch in Paris in 2024 and is expanding into West and Central Africa to diversify its FX base and earnings.
