The Anambra State Government has started to crack down on beauty salons, spas, and wellness centres offering unauthorised medical and dental procedures.
The directive, issued by Health Commissioner Dr. Afam Obidike, warns operators to stop immediately or face legal action.
“These practices are being carried out without proper oversight, thereby exposing unsuspecting clients to grave health risks,” the Ministry said in a public notice.
The warning follows a surge in unlicensed procedures such as teeth whitening, dental scaling, IV drips for skin enhancement, laser treatments, microneedling, and chemical peels.
Many of these services are being performed by non-medical personnel without certification or supervision.
ASHEFAMA Law and Enforcement Measures
The crackdown is backed by the Anambra State Health Facilities Accreditation and Monitoring Agency (ASHEFAMA) Law of 2023.
The law empowers the Ministry to register, monitor, and accredit all health facilities—public, private, or faith-based.
Dr. Obidike said violators will face “blacklisting, seizure of equipment, closure of facilities, and possible criminal prosecution.” He urged residents to report illegal practices using the following hotlines:

All reports should be addressed to the Honourable Commissioner at the Ministry of Health, Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Soludo’s Health Agenda and Public Support
The initiative is in keeping with Governor Charles Soludo’s health reform agenda, which aims to deliver safe, quality, and equitable healthcare across the state.
The Ministry said the move is a proactive step to “maintain professional standards and protect residents from quack practices disguised as cosmetic treatments.”
Public health advocates have welcomed the action, saying it will help curb the growing trend of unsafe beauty procedures in non-clinical settings.
