Nnamdi Kanu’s Case Adjourned to October 2025

The Federal High Court in Abuja has shifted the hearing on the no-case submission by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), to October 10, 2025.

Kanu, who is facing terrorism-related charges, had asked the court to dismiss the case against him, claiming the prosecution had no valid evidence to proceed.

The trial was expected to continue this month, but proceedings have now been delayed due to the judiciary’s annual vacation. The vacation, which runs from late July to early September, affects all federal courts in Nigeria.

Justice James K. Omotosho, the presiding judge, is away on vacation and will not return until the next legal term begins.

Court officials confirmed that Kanu’s no-case submission will be one of the first items on the court’s schedule once the break is over.

This delay adds to the prolonged legal battle that has followed Kanu since his re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2021.

Kanu’s Legal Team Reacts to the Adjournment

Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, explained the adjournment in a post on X.

“The lengthy adjournment was made necessary by the oncoming judicial vacation that will commence in few days. Thank you for your support & prayers,” he said.

The IPOB leader remains in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he has been held for over three years.

Human rights groups have repeatedly called for his release or a fair and speedy trial, citing concerns about prolonged detention without conviction.

Observers are watching to see how the court will rule on the no-case submission come October.

Will this adjournment fuel more anger among Kanu’s supporters, or is it just another turn in Nigeria’s slow justice system?
