The Nigeria Police Force has announced that 151 senior officers are currently undergoing internal disciplinary proceedings over allegations of misconduct and professional violations.
The proceedings, which began on Monday, July 14, will last until Friday, July 25, 2025. They are taking place at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the exercise was part of efforts to strengthen internal accountability and uphold professionalism in the Force.
Officers from Across the Country Under Review
The affected officers, all from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above, were drawn from various commands and units across the country.
Adejobi said they were being subjected to a “thorough and transparent review process” in line with established police regulations and disciplinary procedures.
“The Force Disciplinary Committee is an essential internal structure responsible for reviewing and adjudicating cases of alleged breaches of professional conduct, misconduct, and ethical violations,” the statement read.
The disciplinary process is expected to lead to outcomes that will be forwarded to the Police Service Commission. The Commission will determine whether the officers should be sanctioned or cleared of the allegations, in line with Nigerian law.
Egbetokun Vows No Tolerance for Indiscipline
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, restated his commitment to rebuilding professionalism and discipline within the Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to promoting integrity, professionalism, and public trust,” he said.
“The disciplinary process reflects the Force’s keenness to maintain an accountable and service-driven institution, where standards are upheld and the rule of law is respected from within.”
He added that the Force will no longer tolerate “any form of indiscipline or misconduct, regardless of the rank or status of the officers involved.”
