Nigeria Governors’ Forum Pays Tribute to Buhari; ‘a Humble National Icon’

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has described the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari as “a significant depletion in the rank of Africa’s all-time great men.”

Buhari died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82.

In a condolence message released by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum mourned “a national political leader with profound moral courage, character, and amazing sense of duty.”

According to the NGF, Buhari’s impact transcended political titles. “Muhammadu Buhari was not just a former President or military leader,” the forum said. “He would be remembered for his humility, strategic patience, and modest lifestyle.”

The statement said Buhari’s leadership was marked by discipline, patience, and deep faith, even in the face of national challenges.

Governor AbdulRazaq noted that Buhari’s passing was not just a national loss, but a moment of deep reflection for the continent.

Condolences to the Nation and the Family

The forum extended its deepest condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing Buhari as “a dear friend, compatriot, immediate predecessor, and fellow party man.”

It also commiserated with former First Lady, Aishah Buhari, the children and grandchildren of the deceased, and all those close to him.

Governor Dikko Umar Radda and the people of Katsina State were also in the forum’s thoughts, as they mourn one of their most illustrious sons.

In closing, the forum offered prayers for Buhari’s soul:

“We ask Allaah, who gives and takes life, to ease the account of his servant, Muhammadu Buhari, widen and lighten up his grave, admit him to al-jannah Firdaus, and bless the family and the nation with the patience to go through this phase.”
