Dangote Applauds Tinubu’s Visionary Leadership in Open Letter

Africa’s wealthiest businessman, Aliko Dangote, has openly praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold leadership and foresight in reshaping Nigeria’s infrastructure and economy.

In a full-page newspaper ad on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Dangote poured out admiration for the President’s role in reviving the Bar Beach land in Victoria Island, Lagos. What was once flood-prone coastline is now a booming economic hub.

“Through this project,” Dangote wrote, “you began a process which has transformed a coast line that was once prone to incessant floods, to an emerging new district.”

The area now known as the Eko Atlantic City is built on a modern city plan, protected by an 8.5km-long sea wall. It spans over 1,000 hectares and offers homes and commercial opportunities on reclaimed land right on the Atlantic coast.

A City from the Sea, A Legacy of Vision

Dangote praised the project’s role in preventing disasters like the recent flood tragedy in Kerr County, Texas, where over 100 lives were lost.

“Your foresightedness is even more visible in view of the tragic incident,” he wrote, drawing a direct link between Tinubu’s early interventions and today’s safer Lagos coastline.

He noted that the success of Eko Atlantic was also improving other flood-prone parts of Victoria Island, including Ahmadu Bello Way, Bishop Oluwole, and Karimu Kotun Street.

The letter also acknowledged the President’s push for two massive expressways—the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto–Badagry superhighway. Dangote described these roads as projects that will “significantly enrich the country’s stock of infrastructure.”

A Personal and National Salute

Beyond Lagos, Dangote drew attention to Tinubu’s earlier achievements in reclaiming land in Zeeland, Netherlands—an experience that inspired similar work in Lagos.

He likened the President’s push for infrastructure to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s recovery plan for the US during the Great Depression.

“This practice, which built modern America, is being replicated under your leadership, and it deserves applause,” he stated.

Dangote also acknowledged victims of the recent Texas floods and offered his condolences. “As Dangote Industries, we stand in solidarity with the families of the flood victims.”

He closed the letter by invoking prayers for Tinubu’s continued success. “I pray that the Almighty Allah (S.W.T.) would grant you excellent health, sound wisdom, and divine protection,” he wrote.

Would you agree that Nigeria’s long-term planning under Tinubu is finally bearing fruit? Or is this just an elite praising another out of business self interest and out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Nigerians? Let us hear your views→
