Dele Momodu: Wike Offered $30,000 to PDP Delegates in 2022

Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and former presidential aspirant, has accused Nyesom Wike of offering delegates $30,000 each during the 2022 PDP primaries.

Momodu made this claim during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Monday, July 7. He said he was warned by a former president not to waste his time or money in the race.

A former president of Nigeria sent someone to tell me not to waste my money on the PDP 2022 primaries because Wike had raised the stakes to $30k per delegate; $30k multiplied by 774 delegates, he said.

Allegations of Unfair Play and a Changed Wike

Wike and Momodu were both candidates in the primary that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP flagbearer.

Momodu accused Wike of undermining fair competition. “If you’re going to run, run a fair race, and let’s leave it there,” he said.

He also questioned Wike’s behaviour since becoming Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under the Tinubu administration.

“When a man who had been a nobody gets power, he begins to change slowly and steadily,” Momodu said.

He recalled that Wike rose politically under former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi. “The oppressed man respects only one man: the oppressor. Wike used to respect only one man—Rotimi Amaechi.”

Momodu then went further, claiming that Wike has developed a dangerous affinity for alcohol. “Wike is consumed by the power he holds. The spirit of power and money is demonic when not managed properly,” he said.

“He drinks early in the morning. He introduced me to Akeshi, a strong alcohol, saying it helps him function. This is someone in public office,” he added.

Why I Support Atiku, Not Obi or Amaechi — Momodu

Momodu, now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declared his support for Atiku Abubakar to lead the opposition coalition in 2027.

He said his support does not stop “Obidients” from backing Peter Obi, whom he called “a very good friend.”

“My best choice is Atiku. And that is what I expect Obidients to say, which I expect those who support Amaechi to say,” he said.

He argued that APC’s preference for a southern candidate in the ADC is a strategy born out of fear of Atiku. “The moment they started pushing campaigns of calumny against Atiku, you must know that they feel threatened by Atiku.”

According to him, all aspirants—Obi, Atiku, and Amaechi—should face each other in a transparent primary election. “Let them all go to the field,” he said. “Let all Obidients campaign for Obi, let those Atikulates campaign for Atiku and let the Amaechis campaign for Amaechi. That is my belief.”

Momodu described Atiku as “a good example of what a leader should be in Nigeria.”
