The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has said Abdullahi Ganduje did not willingly step down from his role as APC National Chairman—he was forced out.
Dungurawa claimed the removal came amid festering corruption allegations and internal discontent over Ganduje’s conduct ahead of the Anambra election.
“He didn’t resign,” Dungurawa said. “They removed him. And we believe Tinubu knew what he was doing. That’s why it happened overnight.”
He accused Ganduje of scheming to undermine the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from within.
“Ganduje Was an Enemy Within” — Dungurawa
Dungurawa described Ganduje as a political saboteur who caused more damage to the APC than any external force.
“Politically, we are not happy about his resignation,” he admitted, “because he was doing what we wanted—ensuring APC and Tinubu don’t succeed.”
He accused Ganduje of disregarding INEC’s authority and starting political campaigns too early.
“He unilaterally endorsed Tinubu without even consulting his running mate, Shettima,” he added. “His actions did real damage.”
Dungurawa said the party eventually realized Ganduje had grown to be a threat rather than an asset.
“Too Old, Too Risky” — Age and Allegiances Raised
The NNPP chairman questioned why Ganduje accepted the APC chairmanship at all, given his age and medical condition.
“If you’re between 50 and 70, you’re on medical treatment almost every day,” he said. “So why take the job if you know you’re tired?”
He alleged Ganduje’s real mission was to destroy the APC and that his removal was not about health, but politics.
Dungurawa argued that the decision to sack Ganduje had nothing to do with political reconciliation with Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“It’s Not About Kwankwaso”
There have been speculations that Ganduje’s removal was a strategic move by Tinubu to bring Kwankwaso closer to the APC.
Dungurawa dismissed such talk as “noise,” saying Ganduje’s downfall came from internal party betrayal and corruption.
“That’s not why he was removed,” Dungurawa said. “If it was about Kwankwaso, Ganduje would’ve resigned when Kwankwaso’s Villa video surfaced—but he didn’t.”
He claimed candidates for the upcoming Anambra election had exposed Ganduje’s alleged misconduct to Tinubu.
“Some of them took evidence to Tinubu,” he said. “It’s his usual habit of corruption. That’s why they removed him.”
“We’ll Follow Kwankwaso Anywhere”
Asked if Kwankwaso might rejoin the APC, Dungurawa said the NNPP would follow him regardless of his decision.
“I am not Kwankwaso,” he said, “but I’m one of his loyalists. Wherever he goes, we will follow him.”
He said even if the former Kano governor decided to quit politics entirely, his supporters would remain by his side.
“Even if he decides to quit politics, we will still stand with him,” he concluded.
