Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and Labour Party‘s 2023 presidential candidate, has criticised the Lagos State Government over the demolition of his brother’s property.
Obi visited the site of the demolished structure in Lagos and shared a video of the ruins online. The property reportedly belonged to his brother and had been standing for over ten years.
Obi said the state government carried out the demolition without any prior notice or warning.
“Nobody could remove anything. Is that how a country works? They just came suddenly and started demolition,” he said in the video.
Obi Questions Court Injunction and Process
During the visit, Obi appeared visibly disturbed and questioned the legal backing behind the action.
“If my brother didn’t have a brother like me, they wouldn’t… he wanted to enter here and they said no, he couldn’t,” Obi said.
He accused the authorities of denying his brother access to the property, even to remove personal belongings.
“They said, ‘we have court injunction.’ What type of court injunction allows somebody to enter into another person’s property, refuse him to remove his things, and demolish everything?”

He concluded his remarks with deep concern over the state of governance in Nigeria.
“We are finished in this country,” Obi said.
No response has yet come from the Lagos State Government about the demolition or the claims made by Obi.
The video has since gone viral on social media, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians online.
